The Tour
Step off the beaten path and into Inwood. This journey transports you from the ancient woodlands of pre-European Manhattan through to modern times. We will follow in the footsteps of Dutch settlers and Revolutionary War soldiers, observe the location where Manhattan Island was ostensibly “purchased” by Peter Minuit, and learn about notable individuals who have influenced the neighborhood. Architecturally, we will examine the oldest existing farmhouse in the city, charming Tudor-style residences, Art Deco structures, and modern edifices. Additionally, you will gain insight into how Robert Moses significantly impacted the parks and highways of New York.

For your comfort: Wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen (if it is a sunny day), and bring a small bottle of water. This tour is not recommended for mobility-impaired people or infants.
Meeting Point: outside the Dyckman Museum, at the corner of Broadway and 204th street (Inwood-207th street subway on the A line)
Ends at: the Dyckman Street subway stop on the A line. This area has a variety of restaurants and is at the foot of the hill where the Cloisters Museum is located (well worth a visit).
